Create Mastery Map Template

Create a template to guid students through each learning decision selected in Step #1.

GUIDANCE

A.  Determine What to Document

A "Mastery Map" is a (1) tool for communications between teacher and students and

(2) record of a student's decisions and progress.

 

For each decision ​your students will make about their learning (selected in previous step), consider the information they will need to KNOW and RECORD:

KNOW

Information they need in order to make the decision effectively:
  • Learning objectives they need to master
  • Data on what they know and don't know
  • Learning resources available​

RECORD

The outcomes of their decisions and efforts:
  • Learning objective they'll work on next 
  • Goal for mastering that learning objective 
  • Reflections on their decisions

B.  Create Template Sections

On a single document, create a clear, student-friendly section for each type of information the student will need to know or record (see full example HERE). 

Use a different version of the Mastery Map Cycle (below) to see examples of Mastery Map elements for each phase of learning:
